Skin Care Advice – Keep Your Skin Healthy

If you are new to skin care and are looking for ways to improve your skin in addition to using skin care products, then this hub is for you. All the advices here are general tips on how to improve your skin through small changes in your life style. The presentation will, as in the other two articles, referred to at the bottom, be in a list form of what you can do. Let's get started.

10 ways to keep your skin healthy without using skin care products

  1. Keep a healthy diet: Include vitamin A, C and E through meals and/or fruits. Fruits, vegetables and whole grain are rich on vitamins; at the same time avoid having too much fat in your meals. Also make sure you drink a lot of water through the day, and yes, water, pure fresh water. Do not substitute the water with soda, coffee or tea.
  2. Sleep well, and long enough. This is more important than you might be aware of. While sleeping your body get a chance to relax and recover it-self. This is valid for all of your body organs, including your skin.
  3. Stop smoking; smoking ages your skin. The only thing aging your skin more than cigarettes are skin damage from being exposed to strong sun light.
  4. Protect your skin from being exposed too much in the sun, I discussed in a previous hub how you should protect yourself from the sun with strong sunscreen. However, this is not always enough; you should preferably protect yourself by having clothes covering your skin as much as possible and use sunscreen on parts that are exposed to the sun. You should never stay more than 30 minutes in the sun each day. Of course there are exceptions, which is where the sunscreen becomes important. Just be careful with the sun.
  5. Use mild soap, and do not wash your hands more often than you have too in order to have a good hygiene. Using cleansers, alcohol or strong soap are not beneficial for your skin.
  6. Keep your hands away from your face. Your hand frequently touches surfaces that are dirty, or in worst case have bacteria or virus. By touching your face you will expose your skin to these elements as well. If there are bacteria or virus you might also touch your lips or other parts of your face which are easily affected by the virus and/or bacteria. You will avoid several illnesses, and keep your skin more healthy if you are more careful of touching your face with your palm or face. This is also valid for objects, such as mobile phones. Make sure you clean your mobile frequently to remove bacteria, virus and dirt. There is no logical reason for doing this, but somehow we all have the habit of touching our face without thinking about it at all. Try observing yourself, or even thinking back on how often you do this.
  7. Keep your hair away from your face to avoid dirt and oil from your hair to spread to your face. You should of course, also keep your hair clean to make sure of this.
  8. If possible, avoid sharing objects that are in touch with others face/lips, for example, keep your own glass to drink from, and use your own lip stick. Several bacteria are easily transmitted from mouth to mouth (I guess kissing is fine as long as you send your partner to the doctor for a check before kiss him/her).
  9. Be careful with acids (oranges) or strong spices as these often irritate your skin, but those with sensitive skin should be careful of this (this is not valid for everybody). Another thing that might cause skin irritation or allergic reaction and clothes made of wool. However there are other options like cotton, letting your skin breath comfortable, or synthetic fabrics which keeps you dry.
  10. Avoid stress and worries. Sadly these are two psychological aspects which easily affect the skin negatively. There are things as healthy stress, which let us, reach our goals and ambitions, but it is also negative stress making us depressed, keeping us awake. This often affects your skin negatively as well.


I hope this gave you some ideas of easy steps you can make to keep your skin more healthy without using to many skin care products. Remember that there are many methods to keep your skin healthy, and using too much skin care product without eating and sleeping healthy. Reducing your skin care products to those who are effective, and taking care of your body and mind is the best treatment for your skin.
